Stainless Steel Rivet Nuts

Stainless Steel Rivet Nuts

Stainless steel rivet nuts are single-sided fasteners featuring internal threads for thin-sheet or thin-walled components. Offering the advantages of straightforward installation, dependable strength, and corrosion resistance, they find extensive application in sheet metal work, enclosures and cabinets, new energy vehicles, and mechanical equipment.

Description

Structure of Stainless Steel Rivet Nuts

Stainless steel rivet nuts are specifically designed to address the common issues of thread stripping in thin sheet metal and the tendency of welded nuts to melt.

-1

Flange: Provides a bearing surface, preventing loosening and sinking into the sheet metal
Sleeve: Deforms under tension during installation to form a secure riveted joint
Internal Thread: Provides a standard threaded connection (commonly M2 to M12)

Advantages of Stainless Steel Rivet Nuts

1. Single-sided installation

Requires operation from one side only, suitable for enclosed/hollow structures (e.g., pipes, enclosures).

2. No welding/tapping required

Prevents thin-plate deformation and burn-through, delivering high efficiency and low cost.

3. High-strength connection

Sleeve deforms post-installation to form a mechanical interlock with the plate, providing vibration resistance and anti-loosening properties.

4. Corrosion resistance

Stainless steel construction suits harsh environments including outdoor, humid, and chemical settings.

5. Removable

Supports repeated disassembly and reassembly for convenient maintenance and replacement.

Installation Method and Tools

The ease of installation is one of the primary advantages of stainless steel rivet nuts.
Preparation: Drill or punch a pre-drilled hole of a specific diameter on the sheet metal to be joined, according to the nut specifications.
‌Positioning the Nut: Insert the rivet nut into the hole.
‌Using Specialised Tools:
For blind rivet nuts, employ a manual or pneumatic rivet gun. Screw the gun's mandrel into the nut's threads, then pull the trigger. The mandrel retracts under force, causing the nut's tail to expand and deform, locking it securely to the plate. The mandrel then shears off or withdraws from the threads.
For press-fit nuts: Employ a press-fit machine or punch press to press the nut into a pre-drilled hole in the sheet metal. This deforms its structure, causing it to interlock with the sheet.
Complete the connection: Upon installation, a secure internal thread is formed within the sheet metal, enabling repeated bolt connections.
