1.Anti-corrosion & rust prevention (Core Function)
Steel wire ropes are prone to rust when exposed to rain, seawater, chemical mist, humid soil and industrial corrosive gas. The outer plastic layer (PVC, PU, PE, nylon) completely isolates steel wires from water, oxygen, acid and alkali substances, blocks electrochemical corrosion, and greatly extends the service life of wire ropes used in marine, chemical, underground and outdoor scenarios.
2. Wear resistance & reduce friction loss
When wire ropes rub against metal pulleys, brackets, concrete or other steel parts, the plastic coating bears direct friction instead of bare steel wires, avoiding rapid abrasion, wire breakage and diameter thinning of the steel rope.
It reduces metal-to-metal dry friction, lowers operation noise, and prevents scratches on matched metal accessories.
3. Anti-slip & stable clamping force
The plastic surface has moderate friction coefficient, different from smooth bare steel. When clamping with hoists, cable clamps or lifting fixtures, it will not slip easily, improving the safety of hoisting, binding and traction operations.
4. Insulation for special working conditions
Plastic is an insulating material. Coated steel wire ropes can be used in power construction, electrical maintenance and electrified workshop environments, effectively preventing electric leakage accidents caused by conductive steel wires contacting live equipment.
5. Buffer protection & anti-scratch to workpieces
During lifting, binding and cargo fixing, bare steel wire edges easily scratch, dent or damage finished products, paint surfaces, aluminum alloy, glass and decorative parts. The soft plastic outer layer acts as a buffer, avoiding surface damage of the transported workpieces.
6. Anti-tangling & easy identification
The smooth plastic outer layer reduces mutual winding and knotting between multiple steel wire ropes during storage and use, convenient for arrangement and recycling.
Plastic coatings can be customized into various colors (red, yellow, black, blue). Different colors distinguish load tonnage, usage area or equipment circuit, convenient for on-site management and quick inspection by operators.
7. Waterproof & dustproof sealing
It fills tiny gaps between outer steel strands, prevents fine dust, sediment and mud from penetrating into the rope core. Dirt inside the rope will cause internal abrasive wear during repeated bending; the plastic coating keeps the internal structure clean.
8. Improve bending fatigue performance
The plastic layer evenly disperses stress when the steel rope bends back and forth on rollers, reduces local stress concentration of single steel wires, slows down metal fatigue fracture, and enhances the repeated bending endurance of the wire rope.
Application Scenarios Classification
- PU/nylon coated wire rope: High wear resistance, used for precision lifting, medical equipment, fitness equipment, curtain traction;
- PVC coated wire rope: Low cost, good anti-corrosion, widely used for garden binding, ship mooring, construction protection;
- PE coated wire rope: Strong weather resistance, anti-ultraviolet, suitable for outdoor overhead cable, bridge guardrail wire rope.
The plastic coating only serves as protective covering and cannot bear load alone. The tensile strength still depends entirely on the inner steel wire structure. When the outer plastic layer is cracked, peeled or severely worn, corrosion will quickly invade the steel rope, and inspection and replacement shall be arranged in time.
