2. Galvanized Wire Rope

3. Plastic-Coated Wire Rope

The plastic coating completely isolates the steel core from air, water, salt fog, and chemical media, achieving superior barrier anti-corrosion effects. It also provides anti-slip, anti-collision, and surface protection functions for contacted workpieces.

Bare Wire Rope Applications

Bare wire rope, with its mechanical flexibility and fatigue resistance, is the preferred choice for standard indoor heavy-duty lifting applications. It is widely used in dry factory workshops, for indoor crane operations, the hoisting of machinery and equipment, and short-term temporary lifting operations. Regular lubrication and maintenance are required to prevent oxidation and rust. It is not suitable for outdoor, open-air, humid, or marine environments.

Galvanized Wire Rope Applications

As the most cost-effective outdoor general-purpose rope, galvanized wire rope is widely applied in inland outdoor lifting, water conservancy projects, fresh water operation, garden landscape tensioning, scaffolding cables, and agricultural equipment. Hot-dip galvanized ropes are used for heavy outdoor anti-corrosion demands, while electro-galvanized ropes are for light humidity and decorative purposes. It cannot withstand long-term immersion in seawater and strong acid-base corrosion.

Plastic-Coated Wire Rope Applications

Plastic-coated wire ropes dominate high-corrosion environments, including marine terminals, yacht cables, coastal engineering, seawater immersion scenarios, safety guardrail cables, and animal husbandry facilities. The outer plastic layer can protect contact workpieces from scratching and reduce friction noise. Professional reminder: Once the plastic coating is damaged, water and moisture will be sealed inside, causing hidden internal corrosion. For higher safety, galvanized-core plastic-coated wire rope is the priority choice instead of bare-core coated rope.

  • Misconception 1: Plastic-coated wire ropes have permanent anti-corrosion performance.

Fact: The plastic layer only provides physical barrier protection. Coating damage will lead to invisible internal rusting, which brings major safety hazards.

  • Misconception 2: Galvanized wire ropes are suitable for long-term seawater use.

Fact: Ordinary hot-dip galvanized layers cannot resist high chloride ions in seawater. Marine engineering requires plastic-coated galvanized ropes or stainless steel wire ropes.
